Theme Day Participation

Teams are encouraged to participate in our tournament theme days to showcase team spirit and build a fun championship atmosphere. 

Thursday – Hawaiian / Tropical Day 
Hawaiian shirts, leis, sunglasses, and tropical prints. 

Friday – Pajamas / Slumber Party Day 
Team pajamas, slippers, onesies, and fun sleepwear themes. 

Saturday – Crazy Sock Day 
Bright, mismatched, or creative socks while supporting the tournament Sock Drive


Day 0 - Championship Eve

Tournament Kickoff Activities 

Wednesday • April 1, 2026 
Kansas City Convention Center 

Before competition begins, teams are invited to participate in Championship Eve, a full afternoon and evening of activities designed to help athletes prepare, connect, and give back. 

Players can take advantage of practice sessions, community service opportunities, professional development panels, coaching education, and athlete competitions before the tournament officially begins.

Event Activities

  • Teams may reserve 45-minute practice windows to get comfortable on the tournament courts. 

    These sessions allow teams to: 

    • Adjust to the facility and lighting 
    • Work through travel stiffness 
    • Tune offensive and defensive timing 
    • Prepare for tournament play 

    Practice courts will operate on a pre-scheduled assignment.  Sign up and court assignment available on VBREG. 

  • Where:  2300 Lobby 

    All teams must complete registration prior to competition. 

    During check-in captains will: 

    • Pick up team credentials 
    • Verify official rosters 
    • Complete uniform inspection 
    • Receive final tournament information 

  • Our Serve It Up initiative allows athletes to give back to the Kansas City community while connecting with other teams. 

    Participants can contribute through several service activities. 

    Mental Health Rock Painting 

    Paint inspirational rocks that will be placed throughout the community to spread messages of encouragement and positivity. 

    Sock Drive 

    Donate new socks to support local shelters and outreach programs. Socks are one of the most requested items by those experiencing homelessness. 

    Hygiene Kit Assembly 

    Help assemble hygiene kits that will be distributed through local service organizations. 

    Outdoor Service Opportunities 

    Additional volunteer opportunities may be available for teams interested in off-site service projects. 

  • Athletes will have the opportunity to learn from Diana Alt and Doug Burris about career preparation, networking, and professional development. 

    Resume Building - How to Write a Resume that Gets Attention 

    3:00 PM – 3:45 PM 

    Tips and strategies for creating a resume that stands out in today’s competitive job market. 

    Topics include: 

    • Structuring your resume 
    • Highlighting leadership experience 
    • Presenting athletic experience professionally 

    Speaker: Diana Alt – Certified Career Coach 

    Networking Essentials – Job Search and Networking Stategies 

    4:00 PM – 4:45 PM 

    Learn how networking plays a critical role in professional development and how to build authentic professional relationships. 

    Topics include: 

    • Networking strategies 
    • First impressions 
    • Professional communication 

    Speaker: Doug Burris – Talent Acquisition Consultant 

    Professional Development Session – Q & A Panel – From Locker Room to Career: Your Next Move 

    5:00 PM – 5:45 PM 

    Ask industry professionals how to network, job search, and transition successfully after college. 

    Panel:  TBA 

  • TCU Women’s Head Coach - Jason Williams will lead a discussion on offensive tempo systems and how teams can effectively transition to a faster offense. 

    Discussion topics include: 

    • Evaluating whether faster tempo fits your team 
    • System requirements for faster offenses 
    • Training techniques and implementation strategies 

    On-Court Demonstration 

    7:15 PM – 7:45 PM 

    TCU Women’s Head Coach - Jason Williams will demonstrate drills and offensive training concepts on court to show how teams can develop faster tempo in live play. 

  • End the evening with the Bounce Contest, where athletes compete to see who can deliver the most powerful bounce attack. 

    Players will attempt to impress our judges with their hitting power and creativity.
