Learn More About the NCVF and Collegiate Club Volleyball!!
time commitment and expectations
Each club elects its own leadership, makes a decision on if it will hire a coach or run itself, sets its own expectations and requirements, and holds itself and its members accountable to the level decided by the club. This is a collegiate volleyball opportunity and structure decided by YOU and YOUR CLUB.
Financial commitments vary by club and team, with each club creating a budget based on their goals and expectations (amount of travel, coaching, number of tournaments, etc.). Some clubs receive significant support from their schools, some clubs fundraise to support expansion of their club, playing schedule, or travel, it all depends on the specific school and the level at which the club wants to travel and compete.
Similar to a juniors club schedule with more flexible requirements, most clubs practice 1-3 times a week, play 1-4 tournaments in the fall preseason (some clubs do not play at all in preseason) and 1-5 tournaments in the spring regular season, and around 60% of clubs choose to attend the NCVF Championships at the end of the season. Competitions take place against the club teams from other colleges.
the National collegiate volleyball federation
The NCVF serves as the non-profit governing body for the sport of collegiate club volleyball in the United States. Its origins can be traced back over 60 years to collegiate volleyball clubs at universities, and 40 years to Gary Colberg (one of the NCVF founders and original board members) running the first collegiate club championships in 1985 to create more opportunities for non-varsity collegiate volleyball players.
Today the NCVF serves nearly 1,100 teams across all of the continental 48 states, over 20 recognized conferences, and proudly runs the largest adult and collegiate indoor volleyball tournament in the country (likely in the world) each year.
NCVF Regular Season
The NCVF preseason runs from September through December, with the regular season running January through April. This season consists of NCVF Recognized League competitions as well as tournaments hosted by individual clubs. Each club chooses whether it will participate in a full conference season or select a tournament schedule individually (a majority of clubs choose to join a conference).
