National Tournament History
The first collegiate club volleyball championships was started by NCVF founder, Gary Colberg, on the campus of UC Davis in 1985.
1985 - The first collegiate club volleyball championship was held on the UC Davis campus with 10 men’s teams.
1995 - The tournament added 8 women’s teams, growing the tournament field to 100 teams and marking its first year as a co-ed event.
2000 - The tournament partnered with NIRSA to expand into convention centers and further grow the event, showcasing 182 teams.
2008 - Gary Colberg and key stakeholders from across the country founded the NCVF.
2010 - With support from USA Volleyball, the tournament operated under the NCVF banner for the first time with 266 teams participating.
2022 - The NCVF operated the event independently for the first time, spotlighting 489 collegiate club teams.
2025 - 40 years after the first event started with10 teams, the event has grown to 635 teams and is the largest collegiate volleyball tournament in the world.
